When nominations closed on Tuesday March 7, only two persons filed to contest the presidential slot of the Ghana Olympic Committee’s upcoming election.
They are the current president of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Prof. Francis Dodoo and the president of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation Ben Nunoo Mensah.
The election is scheduled for March 15, 2017 and expected to be held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
About 35 personalities in the sports sector including president of the Ghana Rugby Union Herbert Mensah, and former 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ken Dzirasah have filed their nominations for various positions.
The Ghana Olympic Committee has been dogged with a number of controversies leading to its congress being injunctied in July 2016 for instance.

Even in the run-up to next week’s election, there has been an allegation of people being given voting rights as delegates though they are not associated with any federation amidst fears of manipulation.
