NLC summons TUSAAG over indefinite strike
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has sent an urgent notice to leadership of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) over the recently declared strike action. The notice orders the leadership of TUSAAG to appear before the Commission on Friday. TUSAAG declared strike on Wednesday, January 8 over unpaid allowances, claiming the December salaries received by members were below those paid their colleagues in other public universities. The Association had suspended an earlier strike action declared last year after a last-minute intervention by the Commission, which gave assurances of resolving their grievances. But TUSAAG said the matters are still persistent. The Commission says all parties involved in the TUSAAG impasse are to appear at 10:00am on Friday, January 10 “unless TUSAAG rescinds the strike decision”. NLC exercises its powers under Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651). “This summons supersedes our earlier of even reference,” the statement signed by Ofosu Asamoah, NLC’s Executive Secretary, said.
