‘You may write me down in history…but still, like dust, I’ll rise’ – Charlotte Osei cites Maya Angelou

Charlotte Osei was removed from office for “stated misbehaviour and incompetence”[/caption] Former Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) Charlotte Osei on Tuesday cited Maya Angelou’s Still I Rise poem on her Instagram page. It is unclear what may have inspired her to put the poem up but she got a lot of likes from her followers, some of whom were inspired. “Superwoman, you are our inspiration,” a follower wrote. The post comes a few weeks after Mrs Osei was removed from office as Chair of the Commission. She became the first female to occupy the position in 2015 after her appointment by then president John Dramani Mahama. She successfully supervised the conduct of the 2016 elections. But a petition filed by some staff of the Commission saw her – and two other commissioners – interrogated by a five-member committee set up by the Chief Justice following a referral from the president. Mrs Osei was removed from office for “stated misbehavior and incompetence”. She resolved not to react to the decision as a result of the death of her friend, the immediate past Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.
