Majority of Ghanaians are against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s National Cathedral project which is under construction.

Since its commencement, there have being several disagreements and arguments that have surrounded the whole project.

People like Hon. Ablakwa who is of the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) have publicly announced that the National Cathedral is not a need Akufo-Addo and his government must tackle because there are a lot things that need urgent attention.

During yesterday’s May Day Celebrations, the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress(TUC) Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah urged the government to convert the National Cathedral project to a national hospital and channel it funds to projects that will mobilize revenue for the country as well as create employment.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise Show, the Deputy Secretary General of the TUC Joshua Ansah explained why there is a need to convert the National Cathedral project to a National Hospital.

“We want to prompt the President that many people of today do not even have potable water drink, many people do not have access to hospitals, many people do not have access to education, and to say that we tackle our needs first before our wants.”

“Lets say you are in difficulties and you have little money to do something, lets consider all these things(mentioned above) before maybe you look back to the Cathedral. That is the only context this statement has been made.”

“Let us consider it in that way and lets how the country can move forward.”

Talking about the government’s refusal to cut down expenditure he said “We will continue and continue to monitor and ensure that they (government) do the right thing. They cannot ask us sacrifice while they continue to leave in a different way.

“When they sacrifice then all of us must sacrifice. It is our job as a union to ensure that when we ask for something positive, we must achieve positive results and also government must cut down cost and do what is necessary, right and okay for the citizens of this country.”
