Some congregants were Friday noon turned away from the Kumasi Central Mosque in the Ashanti Region as the muslim community congregated for the first time for Jummah prayers after restrictions on social gathering were eased last Sunday.

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had announced on 31st May that it was necessary for  steps to be taken to gradually ease the restrictions on social gathering to allow for churches and schools to operate.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs issued some safety directives for churches and mosques to comply with in opening up.

Our checks at the Kumasi mosque this noon showed that Jummah prayers were ongoing in conformity with the safety protocols outlined by the Ministry.

But people who came to the mosque after the first 100 congregants were not allowed to enter. They were advised go home.

Our Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Ibrahim Abubakar was there and has the details in this report.
