The SGI is an initiative of US President Barack Obama that offers an enhanced approach to security in partner African countries namely Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Tunisia.
The partnership with Ghana will focus on three main areas: maritime security, border management and cybersecurity and cybercrime.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Accra, US Ambassador Robert Jackson expressed gratitude to the National Security Coordinator, Yaw Donkor, for his “time” and “effort’.
“We thank the Government and people of Ghana for your commitment to partnering with the United States in pursuit of stronger and more accountable security institutions,” Mr Jackson said.
“We are excited about the work we are embarking on together.”
He added that SGI activities will be developed to support the three main areas.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hannah Tetteh took to her Twitter page to express happiness with the deal.
“Glad work will start on the implementation of the joint country action plan on the SGI between the US and Ghana,” she tweeted.
