The four major youth groups within the Upper East Region branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed gratitude to the leader of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for brokering peace and ensuring that the dreams of the late Chairman, Alhaji Adams Mahama, lives on.

Nana Addo met the youth groups after the Adua prayers for the late regional chairman last Sunday.

He had earlier met all regional executives as well as constituency executives.

In a statement jointly signed by the youth groups on Thursday, Nana Addo’s gesture has doused the tension and suspicion within the party.

Five regional executives had gone into hiding after the killing of Alhaji Mahama for fear that they will be attacked through reprisals.

“We have listened to our Leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, and want to make it unequivocally clear that we are strongly behind all our Regional Executives and will work hard and help them prosecute a successful campaign in honour of our hero, Chairman Adams,” the youth groups said.

They gave an undertaking to secure eight seats for the party in the Region, a target the late chairman had set.

“We want to assure the entire NPP fraternity that we will further deepen the process of peace and reconciliation amongst us and continue with the work of winning 2016.”
