One person was injured when a two storey building collapsed at Berekusu in the Eastern region. It is unknown what caused the collapsed of the building but TV3’s reporter on the ground, Daniel Lartey says only one person was near the building before the collapse.

He further indicated that about 20 workers were expected to work on the building on the day of the collapse.

Owner of the building, Justina Donkor in an interview with TV3 expressed shock at the news. The obviously distraught woman said “I was home when I had a call that the building had collapsed.

“I didn’t believe what I was hearing so I rushed to the scene and to my surprise this is what I came to meet” (pointing to the collapsed structure).

She further indicated that “I was told one person was injured and was rushed to the hospital. He has been treated and discharged.”

Questioned about whether or not she had the requisite documentation for the building, madam Justina said “every documentation is intact and building officials have come in to inspect it every now and then.

“We were working on the last floor, infact we have been on it for about seven years now and i just had a call that it had collapsed so i thought it was just the top. I came and found that half of it has collapsed.

“I have no idea what happened. Architects, structure engineers have been here and they checked and confirmed that it is solid. I thank God that nobody was trapped in there or has died as a result of the collapse” she added.
