The Police in the Ashanti Region have retrieved two more AK4 riffles and 176 rounds ammunition from a bush along the Kumasi-Obuasi road.
Following a lead received from a Police informant that some criminals were hiding weapons in a bush at Trede, a community in the Atwima District, a team of police personnel were dispatched there Tuesday.
The personnel laid ambush in the area in attempt to get the said criminals arrested but they never showed up for the weapons. According to the Police, the bush was later set on fire by unknown persons and suddenly gunshots were heard.
Personnel traced the gunshots and managed to retrieve the two AK47 riffles and the ammunition which had been abandoned in the bush, our Ashanti Regional correspondent, Benjamin Aidoo reports.
No arrest were made.
The latest seizure comes on the back of an earlier operation in the region last weekend that resulted in the retrieval of large quantities of sophisticated weapons from the bedroom of a 72-year old Burkinabe resident in Akwatia Line in Kumasi.

The Police have meanwhile lauded the public for providing the information that has led to the retrieval of the weapon and warned all those who have weapons illegally acquired to surrender them.
“We have started receiving very valuable intelligence from the public which we do very much appreciate…This shows that the public is becoming responsive to our course and we have to express our gratitude to the public, Regional Commander Nathan Kofi Boakye told journalists
“Also we want to plead with all those who inadvertently have waepons in their possessions to hand them over to the Police and no further action will be taken. those who cannot for one reason or the other hand them over to the Police should deposit it somewhere and call us, we’ll go and take it,” he advised the public.
The Commander also asked persons with information about those in possession with AK47 guns or any illegal weapon to report to the police, saying “it’s incumbent on you to come and report to the Police and all the necessary action will be taken”.
He also warned landlords whose tenants are in possession of illegal weapons to also report to the Police otherwise should such persons be arrested for crimes, the landlords will also be arrested as accomplices.
