Two arrested for kidnapping in Kumasi

Two people have been arrested by the police for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old boy at KNUST Junction in Kumasi. A passerby who saw the victim struggling in an abandoned two-storey building notified the police, leading to his rescue and subsequent arrest of the suspects. Thirty-eight year-old Charles Appiah and Manasseh Fumeh 29, both unemployed, were arrested at their hideout at Apatrapa in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. One other, whose name was given as only as Felix, is on the run. Police say the suspects who live in the same vicinity with the victim, demanded 3,000-dollar ransom from the grandmother of the victim. Ashanti regional police PRO, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the suspects are in police custody assisting with investigation. He said the owner of the abandoned building in which the victim was kept is also assisting with investigations. “We have invited the supposed caretaker of that abandoned building to assist police investigations,” ASP Ahianyo told the media. He said investigations have revealed that “it was Charles Appiah who went to an abandoned two-storey building at Apatrapa to go and pay 300 cedis to secure an accommodation in order to keep the victim”.
