In recognition of his exceptional contributions to promoting peace in the Volta and Oti regions, TV3’s Senior Video Journalist, Peter Quao Adattor, has been honoured by the two regional peace councils.
Peter Quao Adattor received this prestigious award for his conflict-sensitive reporting during the Alavanyo-Nkonya communal conflict, spanning from July 2014.
His dedicated efforts are said to have played a vital role in fostering improved inter-communal relationships between the two tribes involved.
This accolade not only acknowledges Peter Quao Adattor’s remarkable contributions but also serves as a reminder of the influential role that responsible journalism can play in promoting peace and understanding in conflict-prone regions.

The Paramountcy and Traditional Council of Nkonya-Ahenkro, the Paramount Chief of Nkonya-Wurupong, Nana Kwadwo Asiakwa II, the Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbega Tsedze Attakora, and the regional ministers of Volta and Oti regions, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, and Joshua Makubu respectively, were also honoured for their various roles in fostering peace in the area.
Others who received recognition included the former Volta Region Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Peace Ambassador Clemence Gyato, the Peki Local Council of Churches chairman, and the Insider Peace-building Committees of Alavanyo and Nkonya.
The event formed part of the 2023 International Day of Peace Summit, jointly hosted by the Volta and Oti Regional Peace Councils in Hohoe.
The theme of the summit was ‘Actions for Peace: Celebrating Champions of Peace’.
An international evangelist and UN Peace Ambassador, Reverend Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, blamed leaders all over the world for the lack of peace across the globe.
According to him, though everyone preaches peace, none practice it and what promotes it.
Reverend Dr. Tetteh also identified attitude as a major hindrance to peace-building in the world, urging all to ensure that peace reigns in their homes.
Volta Regional Chairman for the Peace Council, Reverend Seth Mawutor, charged all to reflect upon the journey of seeking a peaceful society, and be reminded of the significant strides taken collectively in improving inter-communal relationships, particularly during the intervention in the Alavanyo-Nkonya Conflict.
“Undoubtedly, it was a challenging time, marked by violence and divisions along the way. However, through our joint efforts, support, and facilitation, we have witnessed positive changes. I am happy to note that violence has decreased, and the negative social-psychological dynamics that once fueled this conflict, such as trauma, enemy image, and entrapment, are gradually being reversed. This progress is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring spirit of peace that resides within our communities,” he stressed.
Various speakers, including the chiefs of Alavanyo, Nkonya-Ahenkro, and Wurupong Traditional Councils pledged their support to further enhance the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the area.
This celebration of peacemakers highlights the significance of collaborative efforts towards fostering harmony in regions affected by historical conflicts.
