Three injured in a near-fatal accident involving LPG tanker

At least three people were injured and a house destroyed in a near-fatal accident at Mpintsin near Kojokrom in the Western Region when an LPG tanker rammed into a saloon on Monday night.

The accident occurred at about 11:40pm when the saloon car, which was over-speeding, lost control in an attempt to avoid running into another car that was ahead of it, and came under the tanker which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The tanker driver, Kwaku Osei, who was traveling from Saltpond in the Central Region to Atuabo in the Western Region, told tv3network.com that in a desperate measure to avoid fatalities, veered off the road and ran into a number of kiosks and a house along the road.

About five persons were said to be in the saloon car. It took the intervention of the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to cut-open the saloon to remove the driver who was driven to an unknown health facility.

The tanker driver and his mate sustained minor injuries but the condition of the occupants of the saloon car is unknown.

Mr. Osei told tv3network.com that because he was tired, he stopped over in the course of the journey to rest but later, one of their tankers showed up and the driver asked that they continue the journey.

According to him, the other tanker was ahead of his until they got passed the Beposo toll booth when the other the driver pulled over to buy something.He said he then took the lead and not long the accident occurred.
