The FORUM, comprising nine labour unions, have given President Akufo-Addo and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) 14 days to transfer their ‘Past Credit’ to their registered schemes.

Leadership of the unions again asked President Akufo-Addo to pay the top up allowance promised pensioners during the May Day celebrations in the year 2020.

The nine labour unions who make up the FORUM include, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Government and Hospital Pharmacist Association (GHOSPA), Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), Ghana Anesthesia Association (GAA) and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

‘Past Credit’ results when SSNIT is unable to transfer all amount due, to the registered schemes. In this instance, it was left with one percent for SSNIT to transfer.

The leadership of these unions are demanding that SSNIT transfers the one percent ‘Past Credit’ to its members.

Chairman of the FORUM, Isaac Bampoe-Addo said, the delay has affected investment of pensioners.

“…we are demanding that Past Credit should be transferred for it to be managed by our schemes, there was a GLICO report and we want government to implement the GLICO report so that our members will not be short-changed,” Mr Bampoe-Addo stated.

He added that “..as at that time there was a short fall that President said it will be paid. As at now, it has not been paid. Tier two arrears should be paid immediately to the registered schemes”.

Meanwhile, the FORUM says, the 15 percent increment in pension benefits announced by SSNIT is woefully inadequate and will make pensioners worse off.
