The 28-year-old woman in Takoradi, Josephine Panyin Mensah, who allegedly planned her own kidnapping and fake pregnancy is expected to be in court today, September 27.

Josephine, who was initially considered a victim in the supposed kidnapping at the time she was purportedly pregnant, was released five days later without either a baby or the pregnancy.

The news of the “missing pregnant woman” received a lot of attention from all quarters of the country, with many criticizing the security apparatus for what they said is failure to protect Ghanaians.

After her supposed release by the “kidnappers”, the Western Regional Minister Kwabena Otchere Darko Mensah revealed on a Takoradi Radio station that Josephine was not pregnant as she claimed before her “kidnapping”.

This led the police to launch an investigation into the matter, which they came out with a statement disputing her “kidnapping” and thus named her a suspect in the supposed kidnapping.

She was picked up by the Takoradi Police Command for interrogations and medical tests to ascertain the veracity of her pregnancy, which she confessed to not being pregnant nor kidnapped on Friday, September 25.

In an interview with the ACP Kwesi Ofori with TV3 on Monday, September 27, he indicated that Josephine and the other culprits are to appear before the Takoradi Circuit court.
