Government has named Samuel Dogbe, a worker of the Central Medical Stores, as the lead person believed to have been behind last year’s inferno.

The suspect is currently on the run and government has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and Interpol to hunt for the man.

According to the Attorney General, if Mr Dogbe is found, the mystery surrounding the disaster will be unravelled further.

Twelve other officers at the Central Medical Stores, according to report, were also said to be behind shady deals and have been interdicted.

The named officers of the CMS were identified after National Security investigations, the report read by Minister of Justice Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong said.

They are said to be part of a network at CMS responsible for systematic theft of large quantities of medical supplies and irregularities in the procurement and allocations to health institutions.

Prosecution of the named staffs will begin from today, Friday, January 29.

Government has also directed the CID in collaboration with BNI to prepare dockets with each named individual and accomplice.

A special task force has been instituted to begin an auditing of the store.

A decision has also been taken for the distribution of drugs to be decentralized.
