Stop taking economic direction from social media – Ofori-Atta chides Minority

Presenting the mid year budget review on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, Ken Ofori-Atta said the Minority should stop taking policy directions from social media platforms. “I would like to advise our friends in the opposition that they should stop taking direction on the economy from social media.” The Finance Minister made this comment after announcing that there would be no increase in Value Added Tax (VAT). READ: VAT remains 12.5% – Finance Minister asserts Prior to the presentation of the mid-year budget review, there were speculations on social media platforms that government plans to increase VAT from the current 12.5 per cent. Some members of the Minority, subsequently, expressed displeasure over the supposed plan to increase the VAT. But presenting the review on the floor of Parliament, Ken Ofori-Atta said VAT will still remain at 12.5%. “I wish to assure the house that VAT will not be increased,” he confirmed.
