The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has noted with concern Tuesday’s disturbances that left two dead and five injured in Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

The Council condemned the clashes and disclosed that it has initiated full-scale investigations.

Chair of the Council Seth Kwame Acheampong, who is also the Eastern Region Minister, is assuring the public that the various security agencies will work together for peace and tranquility to be ensured in the area.

Tuesday’s incident was triggered by the installation of a new chief for the Adoagyiri Traditional Area by the Paramount Chief of the Abuakwa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II.

In a jubilant mood, supporters of the newly installed chief went past the palace of the old chief, sparking commotion.

Gunshots were fired, leaving two persons dead.

“REGSEC totally condemns the act that led to the death of two persons and the attendant injuries to five others,” Mr Acheampong indicated in a communique issued after an emergency meeting on Wednesday, August 30.

He drew the attention of the residents of Nsawam Adoagyiri, and the public in general, on sections of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).

“Additionally, the general public is advised to abide by the provisions of Sections 7 and 11(1)(e) of the Arms and Ammunitions Act 1972 (NRCD 9) which deals with Control of public display of arms and ammunitions and Possession of arms or ammunitions without authority respectively and abide by same.”
