In a joint effort to promote the health and well-being of women waste pickers, Recycle Up! Ghana partnered with SAPTA Waste Management to organise a comprehensive health screening event at the Executive Hotel at Obogu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The event aimed to provide education on leading a healthy life, even while working in waste picking, and offered vital health check-ups for participants.

The health screening event, held on Saturday, 28th September, saw enthusiastic participation from over 40 women waste pickers  from the communities of Obogu, Ofoase, Konongo and Agogo and other individuals in the neighbouring towns. These resilient individuals play a critical role in waste management, contributing to a cleaner environment and the reduction of waste pollution in communities.

The health screening spanned areas including scanning for liver and kidney function, monitoring blood pressure, checking glucose levels, and assessing prostate health.

“Recycle Up! Ghana is committed to the welfare of the waste pickers who work tirelessly to keep our communities clean. This event not only focuses on the physical health of these individuals but also offers valuable information on leading a healthier lifestyle while engaged in waste picking.”, Executive Director of the Recycle Up! Ghana

The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to support waste pickers and promote a cleaner, healthier Ghana. It is a testament to the power of collaboration in creating positive change within communities.
