A torrential rainstorm has caused severe damage to infrastructure at Obuasi Senior High Technical school.

Classrooms, dormitories, science laboratories, and the fence wall of the school were badly hit.

With only a few students on campus, school authorities are managing with the situation, but warned the impact would be dire if the damage is not fixed soon.

“As we speak, it’s only the form 2 students who are around. So, for now, we may not see the impact but from 17th April when the form 3 students troop in, in their numbers to prepare for their West African Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE), that is when we are going to have challenges both in the classrooms and dormitories. As a matter of urgency, we should put the damaged infrastructure back to shape. If not, then there will be a serious challenge”, Headmaster of the school, Ernest Wiafe indicated.

Repair works have begun on the roofs, but the Obuasi West Education Directorate is calling for support to expedite the work.

“The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has been duly informed, and officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), have been dispatched to assess the situation.

Currently, there are some carpenters trying to fix some of the ripped off roofs but looking at the extent of damage, the Assembly alone cannot fix it anytime soon. So we appeal to benevolent individuals and organizations to come to our aid to speed up the repair works” Mr Wiafe appealed.

Currently, only form two students are on campus and any delay in fixing the damage before the return of the form 3 students in two weeks will come with consequences.
