Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has indicated that she will outline her vision for the judiciary in an event slated for Monday, April 8, 2024.
The Chief Justice seeks to rebrand the judicial system in Ghana to deliver robust and cost-effective services to increase public trust in the courts.
Addressing reporters in Accra on Thursday, April 4, Justice Torkornoo used the occasion to invite the media to the upcoming event.
“Let me invite you to an event that I am holding on Monday, the 8th of April. It is an articulation of my vision and the steps I believe can assist all of us bring the justice that we want to the people of Ghana,” she said.
She explained the importance of having the media and the public join her in her quest to restore public confidence in the court system in Ghana because the constitution stipulates clearly that justice emanates from the people.
“You may say, why do I need all of you to join me? The [1992] Constitution articulates it properly, which is that justice emanates from the people of Ghana.”
“So justice is actually a product that comes out of the people of Ghana,” said the Chief Justice, adding, “Law is made by the people of Ghana.”
She, however, emphasised that justice is “only administered by the judiciary.”

The Chief Justice further maintained that the judiciary is only given the “constitutional mandate” to administer justice and is thus accountable to the people of Ghana.
