The Paramount Queenmother of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional area has sued the paramount chief of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional area following the latter’s unilateral decision to relocate the traditional capital from Gomoa Assin to Gomoa Buduattah.

WRIT OF SUMMONS – EX PARTE INJUNCTION – OBAATANPA

The development has led to serious tension between the traditional leaders who are opposed to the move.

The Queenmother (Omanhemaa) Obaatanpa Ama Eduwa I, is therefore seeking 3 reliefs including :
An injunction restraining him ( Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II) , paramount chief of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area from relocating the traditional capital from Gomoa Assin to Gomoa Buduattah and also injuncting him from changing the name of the traditional council from Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council to Gomoa Assin Traditional Council.

In a writ, the Omanhemaa further states that it is an affront to “our customs and practices and for any reason at all, will require general consensus within the traditional council of which I am a principal member, then the regional house of chiefs in cape coast, then the national house of Chiefs, the Ghana publishing Corporation in order to gazette the said action”.

According to her, the paramount chief pending the finalization of his customary destoolment at the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Cape Coast High Court, unilaterally decided to change the name of the traditional council and the seat of the traditional capital.

“It is believed that he did that in an attempt to create more chaos in the system since the ruling for his destoolment is scheduled for 27th April 2024 and there’s a likelihood he will lose”.

However, when the case was called today at the Kasoa High Court, the Omanhene failed to make an appearance.
