The meeting, organized by the Klottey Korle NDC constituency executives in consultation with the Regional executives of the party was scheduled to bring together the various factions in the constituency for deliberations leading to unity in the constituency that seem divided at the moment.
But before the meeting would commence, many of the party’s loyalists present protested that all of Zanetor Rawlings branded materials at the meeting premises should be taken off because they do not recognize Zanetor Rawlings as their parliamentary candidate until the matter in court challenging her legibility to run last November’s NDC parliamentary primaries is determined.
The party’s faithfuls who trooped to the Globe Cinema went berserk when the party executives refused to pull down branded banners of Zanetor Rawlings and boycotted the meeting amidst shouting and chants, forcing the Vice President, who was a special guest at the meeting and was billed to make a statement to abruptly abandon the meeting to speak with incumbent Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashietey on an aide’s phone for several minutes.
However, after speaking with Nii Armah Ashietey, he dismissed the meeting with few remarks “we need to organize this meeting again because as you can see, there is too much confusion here in our family”. He added that “we need to retain this seat and a family divided will not win…. I understand there is a court case going on and therefore if I speak about anything I will be held in contempt of court and this will be the first time a vice President will go to jail so I hesitate in making statements regarding the court case”.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional NDC Chairman, Mr. Ade Coker who seemed very disturbed about the unfolding drama at the meeting said, “We have to go back to the drawing board and unite this party because everything is not well with our party in this constituency”.
He urged the party loyalists to remain calm until the court case is determined”.
Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings who sat quietly in the meeting with a grin on her face could not manage a word when contacted for a reaction.
She looked so shocked and dumbfounded while her constituents protested against her involvement in the meeting without other stakeholders like the incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashietey.
