Private security firms given Oct. 25 deadline to wear prescribed uniforms

The Ghana Police Service is set to clampdown on private security organisations who continue to wear unapproved uniforms despite several warnings. In a bid to streamline the activities of private security firms, the Inspector General of Police in 2017 launched three prescribed set of uniforms for the private security organizations but some of them are yet to comply. David Asante Apeatu, who outdoored the uniforms at the police headquarters, said the proliferation of unapproved uniforms being used by some of the private security organisations is a great concern for the service. He mentioned that most of these uniforms have direct resemblance with those of the state security agency, which is against the legislative instrument that clearly forbids any organisation from wearing any paraphernalia or any identification mark of the state security agencies. The Ghana Police Service has now given October 25 deadline to all private security companies to comply with the directive, DSP Kwaku Anor Dompreh, Staff Officer, Private Security Operations Directorate of the Ghana Police Service told 3news.com on Tuesday. He said the police will launch a crackdown on organisations that will fail to comply with the directive from November 1. New private security organisations are required to submit their sets of uniforms to the police headquarters for vetting and approval.
