The spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, Lawyer Beatrice Annan has explained why former President John Mahama is touring the country with his ‘Building the Ghana we want’ campaign.

According to her, the challenges faced by Ghanaians across the country are different from what residents of Accra experience, hence, the need for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reach out to the people wherever they are.

“What the people want is not actually the Accra challenges we have, and for us it is again affirming that Ghana is not Accra, is again affirming that the challenges of the people of this country are diverse, distinct and any government that seeks to lead the people must first understand and appreciate the needs of the people. Hence the building Ghana tour” she said.

Lawyer Beatrice Annan made these remarks in an interview with Johnnie Hughes and Helen Appiah-Ampofo on the Sunrise Morning Show on 3FM on February 6.

She emphasized the importance of directly engaging with communities across Ghana to discern their specific challenges and expectations from the central government.

“We believe that over the years, we have been doing things one way and we’ve been getting a certain result and it hasn’t worked entirely for the people of Ghana. And so many at times, you realize that in every election, political parties are mandated to present a manifesto to the people.

Normally, political parties will form committees and these people may sit in Accra and decide what is good for all the 16 regions. From 2019 the NDC took a different approach and said that if you needed to govern a group of people, it was important that you begin to ask what is it that the people wanted? And so, that birthed the idea of going to the people, speaking to different interest groups and asking them what the challenges are and what they expect the central government to be doing for them and so in 2019, the NDC did the ‘Speak Out’ and out of the ‘Speak Out’ talk brought the peoples manifesto and so now we are doing what we call building the Ghana tour,” she clarified.
