National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joshua Akamba has questioned the police’s legitimacy to declare some 16 suspects wanted with a GH¢10,000 bounty on their head.

The NDC national executive is of the view that the law court is the only institution that can declare any person wanted.

He, therefore, wondered which court, over the weekend, gave the police the green light to declare the said 16 suspects – who were allegedly involved in the disturbances at the just ended Youth and Women’s Conference at Cape Coast – wanted.

Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Monday, December 12, Mr. Akamba told host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that “if for any reason the police really wanted the head of the said suspects, they would have easily accessed them from the NDC executives but declaring them wanted on weekend I doubt they really sought court order before coming up with such huge announcement”.

The 16 were declared wanted following violent disturbances and their pictures were published by the police as extracted from specific footages.

But the NDC National Organizer, Joshua Akamba, is of the view the police didn’t exhaust all the appropriate legal processes before declaring the 16 suspects wanted.

He, therefore, described the police approach as populist and questioned their locus in declaring the suspects wanted on a weekend all courts were closed.
