The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed the parliamentary primary in the Akuapem South Constituency.
The party said in a press release dated January 25 that, the rescheduling of the election to a later date, is to ensure that some prevailing matters are resolved.
“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party has resolved to postpone the AKUAPEM SOUTH parliamentary primary, initially scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024. This decision is in response to petitions received, accompanied by recommendations from both the constituency executive committee and the regional executive committee. The postponement aims to ensure comprehensive consultations and address raised concerns,” the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong wrote.
It would be recalled that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem South, Frank Aidoo petitioned the National Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to permit him to refile for a nomination to contest in the parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, January 27.

This comes after the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Osei Bonsu Amoah announced his decision to withdraw from the primaries few days to the contest.
The MCE had earlier been disqualified from the contest due to the party’s caveat which prevents DCEs and MCEs from contesting in parliamentary primaries if the incumbent MP decides to contest in the primaries.
Meanwhile, parliamentary primaries in other constituencies where the NPP has sitting MPs will be held across the country on Saturday, January 27 2024.
