Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has refuted media reports that he has stepped down from the upcoming run-off with Francis Addai-Nimoh.

He says he is ready for Saturday’s polls.

Mr Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh polled nine votes apiece in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Super Delegates Conference over the weekend to place joint fifth.

The party was seeking to elect five aspirants for its November 4 Presidential Primary.

The Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee, Reverend Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, therefore, announced Saturday, September 2 as date for the supposed run-off if none of the two aspirants stepped down.

Speaking on radio on Monday, a member of the Boakye Agyarko Campaign Team, Darlington Bill Boampong-Bediako, announced that the former Energy Minister is stepping down.

He said that communication would be made to the National Executive Committee (NEC) at its meeting on Monday, August 28.

But a statement issued by Mr Agyarko minutes later dismissed the announcement.

“My attention has been drawn to some false claims and reports that I, Boakye Agyarko has withdrawn from the NPP presidential primaries.

“I have not made any such pronouncements with anyone or any media house, I am ready for the upcoming run-off scheduled for Saturday, 2nd September, 2023.”

The winner of Saturday’s run-off, if held, will join Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto for the November 7 showdown.
