Former President John Dramani Mahama has said he moved quickly to douse the tension that erupted among the youth front of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after last week’s youth and women’s organizer elections in Cape Coast.

There were heated exchanges among the youth of the NDC especially between Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer and Ningo Prampam Lawmaker Samuel Nartey George on one hand, and the re-elected Youth Organizer George Opare Addo on the other hand.

The exchanges resulted in allegations and counter-allegations traded among the officers.

But Mr Mahama met Sammy Gyamfi and Opare Addo to resolve the matter.

Delivering an address during the 10th delegate congress of the NDC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday December 17, Mr Mahama said “In the period preceding the internal party elections and aftermath, there were a series of unfortunate utterances…

“I have in conjunction with various elders of the party moved to address them and I am glad that calm has returned to the youth front of the party.”

He added “I want to urge and appeal for restraint and maturity as we go through today’s exercise, I expect that the period after the elections will be peaceful and cordial.”
