The Convention’s People Party (CPP) has announced that the high court has ruled in their favor, dismissing a legal action brought against its chairperson and leader, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma.

According to the CPP, this pivotal decision not only upholds the integrity of the CPP’s leadership but also prevents any attempts to unlawfully stop the chairperson from fulfilling her duties, thus protecting the governance and operations of the party.

A press statement issued on March 11, 2024 by the party indicated that the action which sought the removal of the Chairperson and Leader, “was found by the court to be unauthorized by the CPP’s Central committee- The operating mind of our party. Furthermore, the court recognized that the plaintiffs attempted to misuse the judicial system to perpetuate an injustice, and declared that the interim council, set up by certain individuals, is not a legitimate organ of the CPP.”

The statement further indicated that, the legal victory is not only for the CPP as a party but also a significant milestone for democracy and the rule of Law in Ghana and underscores the essence of rightful leadership and the importance of internal party democracy and governance.

The CPP expressed gratitude to the legal team from Merton & Everett LLP, led by Jamaldeeen Tonzua as counsel on record, Oliver Barker- Vormawor as lead counsel and 1st chair, and Selikem Donkor as supporting counsell and 2nd chair who represented the party pro bono and executed their duties with professionalism, dedication and expertise which was very pivotal in securing the win for the party.

“This ruling is a testament to the strength of our legal system and its capacity to uphold justice and fairness. The CPP remains committed to our values of democracy, justice, and integrity, and we will continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of our party and our country” the statement added.

The CPP also urged Ghanaians to identify the challenges facing our democracy and unite behind the party and its leadership towards the 2024 elections.
