The opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) is appealing to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to discontinue the criminal case against Assin North Member of Parliament-elect James Gyakye Quayson.

This appeal was contained in the party’s message to mark Eid-ul Adha on Wednesday, June 28.

“We are taking this opportunity to appeal to the attorney general to temper justice with mercy by discontinuing the criminal case against Mr. Gyakye Quayson as we celebrate Eid,” the message issued by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla said.

The appeal comes barely 24 hours after Mr Gyakye Quayson was re-elected in a by-election occasioned by his deposition by the courts.

The PNC also appealed to the National Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and, indeed, all regional Imams as well as the entire Muslim community “to pray for all political parties and the Ghanaian citizens to champion the interest of the country at all times”.

The Eid message also celebrated the contributions of the Muslim community in the country’s development pursuit, adding the sect has been a “solid foundation” of Ghana.

“This celebration is very dear to Muslims all over the world and we share in what is dear to Muslims.”
