Defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser aspirant Yaw Brogya Genfi, together with two others, has secured an interim injunction on the swearing-in of George Opare Addo as the re-elected Youth Organiser.

The suit, which also cites the NDC, Alex Segbefia, Daniel Amartey and the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), restrains Mr Opare Addo from holding himself as duly elected.

Brogya Genfi’s application was granted by the Amasaman High Court on Friday, December 16.

Opare Addo’s re-election bid was challenged by the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, who lost by 25 votes at a violence-strewn congress held at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

Brogya Genfi had had the open support of NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, prior to the polls.

The outcome of Saturday’s elections, therefore, degenerated into verbal exchanges between Mr Opare Addo, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akwapim North, and Mr Gyamfi, both of whom serve on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the largest opposition party.

However, former President John Dramani Mahama met the two to calm down nerves.

Brogya Genfi’s injunction will mean Mr Opare Addo would have to wait a little longer before being sworn in as the re-elected National Youth Organiser.

The co-deponents of the suit are Ibrahim Rashid and Paul Amaldago.
