The Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, insists that the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Yedu Addison, and his two deputies must be held responsible for the losses incurred in 2022.
He said their position has been strengthened by the attempts by the Central Bank to “justify their actions”.
The Bank on Wednesday, August 8 explained that most of the decisions taken in 2022 which led to the GH¢60.8 billion loss recorded in its financial books were warranted.
“It is important to put the Bank of Ghana’s 2022 financial results in proper context with a clear statement of the problem that Ghana faced and the chronology of events in Ghana since 2019,” the Central Bank said in a response on Wednesday.
“There was a clear mismatch between revenue inflows and expenditure financed in 2020 by
exceptional support from the IMF and World Bank resources, and in addition to financing from
the Bank of Ghana through the issuance of the GH¢10 billion Covid-19 bond.”
But in a tweet on Thursday, August 10, the Minority Leader said the attempt by the Central Bank to justify the overspending only strengthens the opposition party’s calls for Dr Addison to hand over.
I've seen @thebankofghana attempting to justify their actions! This further strengthens our stance that Dr. Addison and his deputies (the Printers) should be held responsible for the mishandling of the central bank and their blatant disregard for our laws! #AddisonMustGo pic.twitter.com/TxvsurHTKs

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) gave the Governor and the two Deputy Governors – Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Elsie Addo Awadzi – 21 days to resign.
Failure to do so, according to the NDC, will see its Members in Parliament (MPs) march to the head office of the Bank to “occupy” it.
