Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo following the decision of his best friend, Fred Nuamah to withdraw from the NDC primaries for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat has expressed his utmost gratitude and his plans to capture the seat from the NPP.

Sharing his response on Twitter, John Dumelo acknowledged the significant development, stating, “I just got off the phone with Fred Nuamah. I thanked him for stepping down and throwing his support behind me. Together we will make sure I win the Ayawaso West parliamentary seat for the NDC and also make sure @JDMahama becomes president in 2025. #idey4u.”

This public endorsement by Fred Nuamah comes after a series of events that initially pitted the two prominent figures against each other in the race for the parliamentary seat.

Fred Nuamah had declared his intention to contest in the same constituency as John Dumelo, leading to some apparent discord within the party.

However, Fred Nuamah’s decision to withdraw from the race and throw his full support behind John Dumelo, he revealed was in larger commitment to the NDC’s collective goals.

He further emphasized the necessity for a united front within the party, especially in the run-up to the crucial 2024 general elections.

In a statement explaining his withdrawal, Fred Nuamah stated, “I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country.”

“I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo,” Fred Nuamah asserted, further urging his supporters and members of the NDC across all levels to rally behind Dumelo’s candidacy.

In the 2020 elections, John Setor Dumelo of the NDC closely failed to unseat the NPP with 37,478 votes while Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP secured 39,851 votes.

Despite being his first attempt, Dumelo has received a lot of commendation for his impressive performance and the noticeable increase in the party’s votes in the constituency.
