Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has demanded the immediate arrest of the Northern Regional Director for the National Sports Authority (NSA) for refusing to deposit more than Gh¢160,000 internally generated funds (IGF) into the Authority’s allocated Consolidated Fund Transit account.

According to the 2022 Auditor-General’s report, the Sports Authority’s Northern Regional Management used the funds in violation of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, however, ordered the arrest of the Regional Director for failing to show up to explain the action.

“We are directing that the Regional Director and accountant of the region should be picked up immediately by the police.

“You were invited to appear before Parliament, and you refused, knowing very well that you had squandered over GH¢160,000 and you thought you would go scot-free,” James Klutse Avedzi said.

The Public Accounts Committee consists of not more than 25 members and is chaired by a member who does not belong to the party that controls the Executive branch of government.

The Committee examines the audited accounts showing the appropriation of the sums granted by Parliament to meet the public expenditure of the government as presented to the House by the Auditor-General of Ghana.
