Minister of Finance Kenneth Nana Yaw Kuntunkunuku Ofori-Atta has hinted at some planned programmes by government if the country recovers from the current economic downturn.

He said the programmes will ensure a robust economy for the future.

“The ensuing years will focus on entrepreneurial and export-driven economy as we grow the economy to protect and create jobs, tackle inflation and strengthen our economy,” he stated in a nationwide broadcast on Monday, December 19.

He added that “importation of food should soon be a thing of the past”.

Ghana’s economic crisis has reached unsustainable levels with the country going to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for bailout.

A staff-level agreement (SLA) has been reached for a $3-billion extended credit facility (ECF).

Besides, the Cedi has made a strong appreciation against the US Dollar.

These gains, the Finance Minister insisted, have been made as a result of strategic measures taken by the government.

“We cannot afford to lose this essence of forward momentum for our economy as we navigate towards stability, predictability and growth.

“2023 must be our comeback year, a year in which we put in place stronger foundations that will allow us to change our country for the better and in a way that is enduring, inclusive and transformational.”
