A parliamentary Candidate hopeful on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bekwai constituency, COP George Alex Mensah (Rtd), has said the upcoming internal elections will be tough.

However, he expressed optimism of winning.

COP Alex Mensa (RTD) was involved in the controversial leaked tape scandal, that captured an alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police Dr George Akfo Dampare.

He said on the Sunrise show on 3FM on Tuesday, January 16 “There are times that going forward you will have a lot of problems but that does not mean you should be disturbed, I am not disturbed about this happening, it just pushed me forward. Once I have an ambition, whether happens I see it as a roadblock that I need to jump and I will definitely jump it. I am focused and I need to do what I want to do regardless of whatever happens.”

He added, “It is not a small roadblock but in life that is what happens, anybody who thinks that he is going to have smoothness in life then he should be very careful because there will be roadblocks and you will need to jump those roadblocks and go forward.”

He further justified his decision to contest despite going on retirement. He indicated that he would be selfish if he decided to sit at home and keep the knowledge that he had.

Speaking on the Sunrise show on 3FM on Tuesday, January 16, COP George Alex Mensah (Rtd) who is contesting the seat with three others – Ralph Poku-Adusei, Henry Opoku-Ware, and Kingsley Opoku Agyemang– said “I see myself as one person who can help the people of Bekwai, who can serve the people of Bekwai very well, that is exactly what I want to do.

“I want to use my experience, and knowledge to assist the youth, and the community in their development. So I don’t see why I should go and relax when I have all the knowledge, I have the strength to do this for my community.

I’ll be selfish not to contest to become MP – COP Alex Mensah (Rtd)

“If I don’t do that then I am being selfish, I shouldn’t think of myself alone, I should think about my people. If my people need me to come and serve them why should I relax?”
