It was day of judgement for Atemuda, a popular joint at East Legon in Accra noted for prostitution and other criminal activities, when a team of police and city authorities stormed the place to demolish structures serving as a den.

An eviction notice by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly gave the people in the area up to October 11, 2017 to move out or face eviction but that directive was clearly ignored.

At about midday on Tuesday, the team swooped on the small community to demolish their structures along the Abede Pele road.

City officials say the exercise became necessary because the area had become a focal point for prostitutes in the evenings.

Operations commander of the Accra Regional Police  Command, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, said occupants were posing constant risk to residents.
