The parliamentary candidates for the National Democratic Congress and opposition New Patriotic Party were in near fisticuffs on TV 3’s late night news broadcast programme, News @ 10.

NDC’s Dr Nuhu Adams and Mavis Hawa Koomson of the NPP traded words over issues relating to the newly-created constituency.

For Dr Adams, Kasoa, a major town within the constituency, was badly planned during the early periods of its expansion.

According to Dr Adams, who is also the Municipal Chief Executive of the municipality, efforts are feverishly being channeled into correcting the anomaly to create a perfectly designed community out of Kasoa.

In his opinion, the population growth in Accra should have prompted city planners to design towns and cities within the outskirts in order to meet effects of population explosion.

“We are expanding access routes to the main Kasoa-Mallam Road to ease traffic congestion,” he said.

“Currently, you can connect to Amasaman directly from Kasoa.”

But Hawa Koomson considered false all claims by the MCE that access routes are being expanded.

“The road which I use every day is poor,” she retorted. “It was this morning that one of his Assemblymen called me that they were coming to work on my road at Adam Nana.”

‘Coaching’

Dr. Nuhu mentioned that his opponent was “not on top of issues” claiming she has just been ‘coached’ on what to say, and when, regarding issues about the constituency.

Hawa Koomson, who demanded an apology for the comment, cited an expansion of the Kasoa Market, Kasoa Clinic and construction of the Kasoa-Mallam Road during the regime of Ex-President John Kufour as evidence of the commitment of the NPP to upgrade Kasoa.

“NDC has been on the seat five times while the NPP has only been on the seat once but the records are there to show who has done better,” she chipped in.

News @ 10 is aired between 10pm and 11pm from Monday to Thursday on TV 3.

It is hosted by ace broadcast journalist Bright Nana Amfoh.
