The offices of the online news portal, ModernGhana.com, in Accra have reportedly been raided by persons suspected to be from the National Security who took away working equipment, arrested three editors and locked the office up on Thursday, June 27. The arrested editors were reportedly whisked away and their whereabouts have since not been known to the management of the company nor close associates. “Nobody has any idea where they have been taken to and that’s scary,” Editor-In-Chief William Nana Beeko told some newsmen when they approached him with the news. According to him, their portal carried a story on the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah. They were later instructed to pull it down, to which they obliged. “There has been a publication about the minister. It was an opinion piece. The people just came in today and took away laptops and arrested the staff,” William Nana Beeko explained. A close associate of one of the arrested disclosed that efforts to locate where their colleague has been taken to “have proven futile.” “We have tried the lines of his editors, but it has not been fruitful. Emmanuel only managed to call a friend saying he is in the custody of National Security,” the associate disclosed. Meanwhile, there are emerging reports that the National Security stormed the office and arrested the journalist on suspicion of cybercrimes. Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>
