Member of Parliament for Asawase Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who was re-elected to represent the Asawase Constituency of the Ashanti Region in Parliament, has hinted that President John Dramani Mahama has won the 2012 Presidential Elections.

He, however, stated that the rank and file of the party are waiting for the Electoral Commission (EC) to make a formal declaration, expected Sunday.

Speaking to TV 3’s Matilda Aba Haynes while joining his jubilant supporters in Asawase, the former Minister of Sports revealed that NDC performed beyond the party’s expectation in the Ashanti Region.

He told Matilda Haynes that though his seat was one of four won by the NDC in the Region, the total votes obtained by the party far overwhelms the regional executive.

“We worked hard at obtaining 500,000 votes in this region,” he said.

“We have had 512,000 votes and from the results coming in we may even hit 580,000. This is impressive,” he added.

He admitted that he was lucky to have come out victorious given the tough competition he faced from New Patriotic Party’s candidate Nana Okyere Tawiah-Antwi.

He thanked his supporters for retaining him in the seat.

He also asked them to jubilate in moderation in order not to provoke supporters of losing parties.
