A suspected armed robber who snatched a motorbike from an assembly member at a gunpoint and attempted to dismantle it has been lynched in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The unidentified man who sought refuge in a manhole, was smoked out with burning car tyres and wood, and beaten to death by an angry mob. His accomplice however managed to escape.

The assemblyman for Sawaba area, one Osman, was traveling on his motorbike on the Vea-Bolga road Thursday when he was attacked by the two suspected robbers at gunpoint and had his bike snatched from him.

Osman managed to get to Bolga where he lodged a complaint with the Police and went round some auto mechanic shops within the metropolis to alert them about his snatched bike, TV3’s Upper East correspondent Rabiu Tanko reported.

When he got to one mechanic shop around the Metro TV Office area, he spotted the two robbers who had arrived, apparently to dismantle the bike. He quickly raised an alarm and the two took to their heels.

One managed to escape the mob that responded to the alarm while the other went to hide in a manhole but was smoked out and beaten to death.
