Missing ECG containers: Former MD Dubik Mahama defends Afenyo-Markin, NAPO

Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has refuted claims linking the power distributor to the alleged disappearance of containers meant for ECG.

Speaking on Asempa FM on April 2, 2025, he dismissed accusations against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, urging critics to halt the blame game.

Mahama questioned the investigative committee’s approach, arguing that ECG had not officially taken custody of the alleged missing containers.

A container cannot get missing. The Committee said it checked GPHA terminals. Did they go to the other holding terminals to check? Did they go to the Customs terminal to check?

He emphasized that if a container went missing in transit, it would not be ECG’s issue, stating:

ECG had not taken custody of the containers yet, so it couldn’t be an ECG problem.

According to Mahama, ECG staff members have been reaching out to him, concerned about the false narrative linking the company to the missing containers.

Mahama also criticized the handling of the investigation, expressing frustration over being named in the report despite never being contacted by the committee.

“I am saying for a fact; the committee did not invite or speak to me. I wasn’t contacted, but my name has been mentioned in the report.

He further described the situation as unjust, questioning the motives behind the allegations:

“They have been very unfair to me. Will it be wrong for me to call this a witch hunt?” he quizzed.

Beyond the missing containers controversy, Mahama also revealed that he was never consulted on discussions regarding ECG privatization, despite his former role as Managing Director.

No one called me for the privatization committee discussions as Former MD of ECG.
