The Minority in Parliament has described the 2016 budget as “a trust betrayed [and] a dead goat budget”.

According to its leader, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, there was little inspiration in the delivery of Minister of Finance Seth Terkper.

The leader of the Minority caucus made these remarks as he seconded a motion of adjournment tabled by the Majority Leader, Alban Sumana Kinsford Bagbin.

Mr Terkper presented government’s 2016 budget statement and economic policy on Friday, November 13.

It was on the theme: “Consolidating progress towards a brighter medium term”.

The two-hour delivery gave several assurances in the area of health, education, energy, infrastructure and, more importantly, pledged enough resources for the organisation of next year’s elections.

But after Mr Terkper’s delivery, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) displayed sheets on which were written ‘Dead goat Budget’.

“Fridays are not good days to deliver a budget,” Mr Mensah-Bonsu, who is also MP for Suame Constituency, protested.

“[Terkper’s] presentation was full of perspiration with very little inspiration.”

Discussion on the budget has been scheduled for next Friday – November 20.
