A three-storey building project in the Adenta West Municipality on Monday, May 1, 2023 was reported to have collapsed due to inferior materials that were used in construction.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Madina Jennifer Dede Adjabeng gave more details about the whole incident on the Sunrise show.

In a narration she said;“On the first of May, about 3pm, that was when my NADMO director informed me that they had a call from the control room a disaster at West Adenta within our municipality. So immediately I dispatched them to the site to ascertain what the situation is and indeed it was confirmed that a three storey structure had collapsed.”

“Immediately we needed to arrange to get out the victims. As we were told some have been trapped underground. Fortunately we were able to bring them out but we sadly lost one person who was confirmed dead on the spot even before taken to the hospital.”

“Following that we’ve had NADMO visit the site and there also a security counsel has followed where the briefing has been. We’ve a briefing from the police on the criminal aspect of the case.

“But on the side of the assembly, it is confirmed that the said developer had no permit and on the 20th of April when the assembly noticed he had started the structure, served him with summons but he refused to give a response even though he did not go head with the construction so he abandoned site only for us to hear that this happened on Monday and our checks also reveal that over the weekend he worked quickly both at night and during the day with the expectation that by Monday when the assembly comes he will not be at site and unfortunately this is what we all head.”
