Mahama steps in to unite two ‘aggrieved NDC elders’

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stepped in to resolve the grievances of two elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region. The two elders of NDC, Aljahi Alhassanbila and Kasulyili Na, Naa Abdulai Yakubu are said to be “aggrieved” but party officials have remained tightlipped on the details. Mr. Mahama on Wednesday met with the two elders separately in their respective homes, together with some party members, at which the former President urged them to let go all the issues which are said to have arisen out of events preceding and after the 2016 elections. Sources say the meeting was also to rally the two elders behind the party for the 2020 general elections. Former Agriculture Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed, who was part of the delegation that met the two elders behind closed doors, said the Kasulyili na appeared satisfied after the meeting and expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahama for taking a bold step to resolve issues between them. In Alhaji Mohammed’s view “party elders need to have a good reason to reconcile members but when an elder needs reconciliation himself, how then would he reconcile the party?” He explained it is against that background that former President Mahama decided to resolve the issues between the elders “so they can effectively take up their responsibilities of reconciling the party members”. He encouraged supporters and members of the party to “register and be known as a bonafied party member. Pay your GHC1 as your commitment to the party”. At the Tamale North Constituency, the supporters went agog and chanted, “come back Mahama”.
