Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, November 10, Convener of the Alliance David Asante said the “huge” appointment is in place as per the constitutional demands on the president.
He, however, said: “A lot of professionalism will be required from COP Kudalor in the face of the crucial elections.”
The Commissioner of Police (COP) was appointed to act in the stead of Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, who proceeds on his accumulated leave.
The announcement of COP Kudalor’s appointment was made by the presidency on Monday, November 9.
Until his appointment, COP Kudalor was the Director General in charge of Operations.
It was under his watch that the police clashed with members of the Alliance in a demonstration on September 16.
In congratulating COP Kudalor, Mr Asante said the appointment should not be considered a reward for the “minimal” force meted out to his members.
“We welcome him,” he stated.
