An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Dominic Owusu Sekyere, a senior attorney and one Albert Kwadwo Coleman to 12 years imprisonment for $200,000 fraudulent land transaction. The convicts collected the amount from one Ato Hamilton under the pretext of providing him with a parcel of land at Cantonments in Accra, but failed to do so, TV3’s Selorm Amenyah reported. Sekyere  and Coleman alias Samuel Yeboah  a marketing officer collected the money three years ago and the matter had been in court since its commencement on November 15, 2015. But the court presided over by Mrs Malike Wornya Dey on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 found the accused guilty of the offence of defrauding by false pretenses and convicted them accordingly. According to the facts of the case, somewhere June 2014, the complainant, Ato Hamilton, who is a businessman at East Legon was contacted on phone by one Samuel Yeboah with phone No 001942388254 that he resides in Texas in the United State of America. He mentioned in the conversation that his girlfriend, Dr Jennifer Jane-Brown Aryee, has five plots of land for sale at Cantonments, which the complainant developed interest and was referred to one John Arthur alias Amoah as the agent. The complainant was led to where the land is and met an occupant residing in a bungalow there who admitted that the land was up for sale. A search at the Land Commission showed that the land belongs to Dr Jennifer Jane-Brown Aryee and was priced at US$2,000,000. He was asked to make an initial deposit of US$500,000 for the documents on the land to be processed, which led him parting with US$200,000. The perceived owner of the land and agent kept pressuring the complainant to top up with US$300,000, coupled with how they have been complaining of lack of money made him suspicious. “Complainant upon further investigation realized that he has been defrauded. It came to light that the rightful owner of the land was living outside the country and that, she has no idea of the sale of her property in question.” The case was reported to Police for investigation which led to the arrest of some of the suspects. Police investigation “revealed that, A1 (Albert Kwadwo Coleman), A2 (Dominic Owusu Sekyere), A3 (John Arthur at large) and A4 (Dr Jennifer Jane-Brown Aryee at large) conspired to defraud the complainant. Information led to the arrest of Al who was in custody of BNI for similar offence. Complainant identified him as one of the people who defrauded him. Further investigations reveal that Al and A3 gave fake names to the complainant as Samuel Yeboah and Amoah instead of their real names as Albert Kwadwo Coleman and John Arthur to outwit complainant. “The other accused persons are being sought for.” By 3news.com | Ghana]]>
