The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have rescinded their decision to shut down their plants after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Friday settled part of the $1.7 billion debt owed them.
The power producers had threatened to shut down all their plants if ECG did not settle 30 percent of the total debt by Saturday, July 1.
But after an emergency meeting on Friday, June 30, ECG made a part payment, which is said not to be up to the 30 percent demanded.
Some key government officials were in attendance, 3news.com gathers.
The IPPs contribute a total of 50 percent to the national grid and a shutdown could have seen blackouts in several communities in the southern sector of the country.
