Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has expressed gratitude to John Dramani Mahama for the “singular” decision to name her as his running mate. She said she was overwhelmed by the conversation that such a decision generated in the country. “Your Excellency John Dramani Mahama, your singular decision to select me as your running mate has generated a whole web of responses and debates in this country. “And I keep saying that I didn’t know that my name will create such an atmosphere,” she admitted. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was speaking at her unveiling on Monday, July 27 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). Since being selected as the running mate of the former president on Monday, July 6, Prof Opoku-Agyemang has engaged members of the party at smaller levels. She joined the campaign team in a retreat to assess the party’s manifesto while she later met the party’s women’s caucus in Parliament. On Monday, July 27, she was outdoored by the man he worked for as Minister of Education in the previous government. “With Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang, I can say confidently that we have made the best choice for Ghana,” Mr Mahama stated. “I have partnering with me by the grace of God, a vice presidential aspirant who complements and will ensure that we present to the people of Ghana a winning ticket, a very experienced ticket and, indeed, a competent ticket.” General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in his address, called on all to rally behind the decision and close ranks in order for the next government not to be only a John and Jane affair but one that will be for all members of the NDC. Prof Opoku-Agyemang assured the rank and file of the party not to disappoint them for the confidence reposed in her. “We plan not to disappoint you,” she stressed. “By your advice and your choice, you have turned the struggles of many women who have come before this moment into a probability. “We, and I refer to the men, women, our youth, our children, we all have a chance to finally make real our dreams of serving this country at any level.” By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
