Major parts of Kumasi and other areas in Ashanti Region have already begun to witness perennial flooding as heavy rains hit Friday morning.

The downpour, which began at 7:00am, comes at the time the country is expected to experience a rainy season.

Already, flood images and videos of key communities in Ashanti Region have begun to emerge on social media and this begs the question whether residents and state authorities have prepared enough for the rains.

Videos from Ahenema Kokoben, Dichemso, Abuakwa and other parts of the Ashanti Region showed floods caused by the rains.

While heavy rains are unpredictable, poor drainage systems will adversely expose the fragile nature of structures within communities that have long destroyed properties and resulted in deaths.

Prior to the rains, meteorologist Adu Tieku, speaking on phone during the Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma FM with Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin, cautioned that some parts of the Ashanti Region will experience rains Friday morning.

“Later this morning into the afternoon, rains will be experienced over parts of southern Ghana,” he stated.
